The Writer's Call: Creative Writing

📋 Course Overview

Every student has a story worth telling — and this course gives them the craft to tell it well. The Writer's Call is a full-year creative writing experience that takes students across 8 genres: from personal narrative and poetry to fiction, creative nonfiction, and persuasion. Students will build a complete writer's portfolio, develop a voice that is distinctly their own, and encounter the great Christian literary tradition — Lewis, Tolkien, L'Engle, ten Boom — while discovering how creativity and faith deepen each other rather than compete. The deeper you go into the craft, the more clearly you see the One who gave you language in the first place.

• ✏️ Unit 1 (Wks 1–4): The Craft of Writing — Tools, process, voice, and writing as a calling
• 📖 Unit 2 (Wks 5–8): Personal Narrative — Your story, told with skill and honesty
• 🌿 Unit 3 (Wks 9–12): Poetry — Forms, imagery, sound, and the power of compression
• 📚 Unit 4 (Wks 13–16): The Art of Story — Plot, character, conflict, and scene
• 🗞 Unit 5 (Wks 17–20): Creative Nonfiction — True stories, written with craft
• 🎯 Unit 6 (Wks 21–24): Writing to Persuade — Arguments with grace and power
• 🌌 Unit 7 (Wks 25–28): Genre Writing — Fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, and more
• 🏆 Unit 8 (Wks 29–32): The Writer's Life — Portfolio, writer's statement, celebration
